Interview with Grace Towns Hamilton, conducted during the writing of Georgia Tech History, Technology, and Society Professor Ronald H. Bayor's 1996 book Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta. This interview addresses Hamilton's work to improve community leadership and the political representation for African Americans in Atlanta's city, county, and state governments. As the first African American woman elected to the Georgia legislature, Hamilton held many roles during the civil rights movement. She was instrumental in Atlanta's Urban League, the Citizens Committee on Public Education, U.S. Civil Rights Commission, and Atlanta City Charter, just to name a few.
