Interview with Xernona Clayton, conducted during the writing of Georgia Tech History, Technology, and Society Professor Ronald H. Bayor's 1996 book <em>Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta</em>. In this interview, Clayton addresses her activities in civil rights. A civil rights leader, Clayton served as secretary of the group Southwest Atlanta for Progress (SWAP). She also played a role in the improvement and desegregation of Atlanta neighborhoods, schools, and hospitals.

He served as the executive director of the Butler Street YMCA in the 1940s and 1960s and served as the executive director of the Atlanta Negro Voters League.

Interview with Sam Massell, conducted during the writing of Georgia Tech History, Technology, and Society Professor Ronald H. Bayor's 1996 book <em>Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta</em>. In this interview, Massell expresses his view on race relations in Atlanta and the 1969 election. He also reflects on developments during his term as the city's mayor, such as transit growth. Massell succeeded Ivan Allen, Jr. as Mayor of Atlanta, serving from 1970-1974. He was the first Jewish mayor in the city's history. Massell appointed the first female member of Atlanta's City Council and the first African American department heads.

Interview with Robert Thompson, conducted during the writing of Georgia Tech History, Technology, and Society Professor Ronald H. Bayor's 1996 book <em>Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta</em>. Thompson discusses his efforts in securing land and housing solutions for African Americans in this interview. Thompson served as housing secretary, industrial secretary, assistant director, and executive director of the Atlanta Urban league from 1942-1960s and was very involved in housing and expansion issues. He also served as the secretary for the Atlanta Housing Council and assistant to the regional administrator of the Department of Housing and Urban Development for equal housing and development opportunities.

In this interview, Flanagan speaks about his role in the civil rights movement, particularly with zoning issues and developing African American housing projects on the Westside. Flanagan served as the NAACP's Executive Secretary from 1967-1968, the NAACPís Field Director for Georgia in 1968-1978, among other civic positions.

Jones was the first Director of the Department of Urban Renewal in the late 1950s and later the Executive Director of the Housing Resources Committee, where he directed housing code regulations and reanalyzed zoning for African American housing.

Bayor's 1996 book <em>Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta</em>. In this interview, Johnson speaks on the racism issue during his civil rights activities. He was a prominent attorney, winning a seat in Georgia's Senate in 1962. This made him the first African American to serve in the Georgia General Assembly since the end of Reconstruction.
