In this interview, Young addresses the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, African American churches, and working with Martin Luther King, Jr. He also discusses his election and the evolution of the power structure of businesses with the Action Four Plan. Young was a U.S. Congressman from the 5th district from 1973-1977. He was the first African American from Georgia to be elected to Congress since Reconstruction. In 1977, President Jimmy Carter selected Young as the United Nations Ambassador. Also, Young served as Atlanta's mayor from 1982-1990. In this interview, Yancey addresses the lack of adequate medical education for African Americans as well as segregation of Atlanta hospitals, particularly how African American doctors could and could not practice medicine. In this interview, McKinney discusses the racial discrimination that he experienced while working for the Atlanta Police Department. McKinney integrated the Atlanta Police Department by becoming Atlanta's earliest African American police officer. McKinney spearheaded the efforts of the Afro-American Police League by demanding the hiring of more African Americans and better treatment for African American civilians. He also served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1983 to 2002. Scott, conducted during the writing of Georgia Tech History, Technology, and Society Professor Ronald H. Bayor's 1996 book Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta. In this interview, Scott speaks about Maynard Jackson, housing issues for African Americans, and overall racial tensions in Atlanta. From 1934-1997, Scott was the editor and publisher of The Atlanta Daily World, the oldest African American newspaper in Atlanta. He argued for voting rights and education access for African Americans, and urged the public to support African American-owned businesses. Also, he was criticized for not supporting sit-ins and gradually adopting a conservative political view. Bayor's 1996 book Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta. This interview focuses on Alexander's role in urban development and civil rights issues. Alexander was a Caucasian architect who shaped the skyline of Atlanta. He spent a year at Georgia Tech in 1936, before transferring to Yale. He helped to design buildings, such as Rich's Store for Homes, AT&T Midtown Center, Coca-Cola headquarters, and the State of Georgia building. Alexander was also a civic and political activist. He chaired the Citizens Advisory Committee for Urban Renewal, which strived to replace slum housing with low-income housing. Not only was he a figure in the campaign against segregation, Alexander worked alongside John Lewis and was an organizer for a dinner to honor Dr. Martin Luther King's Nobel Peace Prize. Bayor's 1996 book Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta. This interview expresses Coleman's experiences with interracial conflicts in Atlanta as well as urban development issues that negatively affected African Americans, such as unequal school renovations, transportation to confine African Americans, and urban renewal as a tool for African American removal.  As the Southeast Regional Director of the National Urban League, Coleman campaigned for new employment opportunities for African Americans and to end discrimination in city government.
