  • Text: MEMO . . . FROM THE DESK OF BOB MORRISS Date the FORM 11-29 847 Gertrude Place, N. W, Atlanta, Georgia 30318 January 9, 1967 The as Ivan Allen Mayor of the City of Atlanta Atlanta, Georgia Dear Mr. Allen; Please pardon the taxing of your office with this matter again but we have called it to re attention of the Office of Stream Pollution in the Health Department so often that it is no longer receptive to our reports. This letter addresses itself to the problem of Proctor Creek, The pogice which flows near the North West portion of Bankhead “venue and through our yards is badly polluted. This matter was called to your attention in April 1966, by the Gertrude Place Community Club, after which we enjoyed a relief from the foul odor, insects and unsightly view which this stream brings. For this we are grateful. However, since late summer, we have again been plagued with this problem. It is now constantly visibly polluted and reported illnesses have been attributed to the foul odor. Again we solicit your help in correcting this matter. Very truly, el a os Hazel 4. Brown (Mrs.) DRAFT & INFORMATION Mrs. Hazel H. Brown 847 Gertrude Place, N. W. Atlanta, Georgia, 30318 Dear Mrs, Brown: Thank you for your letter of January 9, 1967, advising this office of pollution problems on Proctor Creek, This office is aware of continuing problems in this area and we regret the inconvenience that the matter is causing. Steps have been taken to replace the Bellwood Outfall Sewer which is one of the serious problem sources and completion of this work during late summer, should alleviate the troubles to some extent, The second serious problem that we face in eventual removal of pollution from Proctor Creek is not so simple or quickly solved. This is the condition created by periodic combined storm and sanitary dis- charges to Proctor Creek from Interceptors at North Avenue and Greens- ferry. Removal of overflows from these old "combined sewer" facilities is well in the future, though presently under study. I hope that the Bellwood Outfall relief and other similar programs presently underway will provide a degree of necessary relief to you and your neighbors and assure you of the continued interest and attention to this problem by your City Government, Yours very truly, Ivan Allen, Jr. Mayor January 17, 1967 Mrs. Hazel H.
