Web site with information about the Civil Rights movement in Atlanta, Georgia. The site contains several essays about the history of the movement in Atlanta; each essay also has discussion questions and suggestions for classroom activities. The essays document events, people, and places significant to the movement in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. In addition to the overview essay, other essays describe: the Barbwire Theater production of The Cage in October 1969; a press conference held on September 8, 1971 in which Huey Newton announces plans to bring the Black Panther Party to Atlanta; an anti-war demonstration held in Piedmont Park on August 7, 1971 in which Fannie Lou Hamer spoke; the Pickrick restaurant, Lester Maddox, and the 1964 Civil Rights Act; the Students for a Democratic Society protest during the 1969 mayoral election; the community and civil rights visions of Maynard Jackson and Andrew Young; the March 1964 conflict between the Atlanta pol!
