Interview with Sam Massell, conducted during the writing of Georgia Tech History, Technology, and Society Professor Ronald H. Bayor's 1996 book Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta. In this interview, Massell expresses his view on race relations in Atlanta and the 1969 election. He also reflects on developments during his term as the city's mayor, such as transit growth. Massell succeeded Ivan Allen, Jr. as Mayor of Atlanta, serving from 1970-1974. He was the first Jewish mayor in the city's history. Massell appointed the first female member of Atlanta's City Council and the first African American department heads.
