Interview with Andrew Young, conducted during the writing of Georgia Tech History, Technology, and Society Professor Ronald H. Bayor's 1996 book Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta. In this interview, Young addresses the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, African American churches, and working with Martin Luther King, Jr. He also discusses his election and the evolution of the power structure of businesses with the Action Four Plan. Young was a U.S. Congressman from the 5th district from 1973-1977. He was the first African American from Georgia to be elected to Congress since Reconstruction. In 1977, President Jimmy Carter selected Young as the United Nations Ambassador. Also, Young served as Atlanta's mayor from 1982-1990.
