Interview with John H. Calhoun, conducted during the writing of Georgia Tech History, Technology, and Society Professor Ronald H. Bayor's 1996 book Race and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century Atlanta. In this interview, Calhoun speaks about his work on increasing African American voting participation. Calhoun was a champion for civil rights. He was involved in the Atlanta Negro Voters League, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the integration of Atlanta's parks and golf courses. As a City Council member from 1974-1978, Calhoun developed neighborhood planning units, which helped African Americans win public offices.
