Mr. Patrick Taylor, Secretary
~) Community Relations Commission

Center Building

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102

Dear Mr. Taylor:

The Mayor has asked me to answer your letter of July 19, 1967 concerning the
Summer Youth Opportunity Campaign in the Metropolitan Atlanta Area.

Rather than to go through a long explanation about our program, I am taking
the liberty of enclosing for your information copies of somecof the material which
we are using in our Campaign.

I believe this will give you a good indication of the comprehensiveness of
the Atlanta effort and the kind of broad community participation and cooperation
which we have been able to obtain.

Much of the success of this Campaign was due to the amount of active support
and participation which we were able to obtain from the Office of the Mayor and
the Mayor himself who serves as chairman of the Youth Opportunity Campaign. We
maintained a close working relationship between community action agency (E.0.A.),
the private and public welfare agencies, the recreation and educational agencies
and the businesses in this community. We also attribute our suceess to the early
groundwork done by the Atlanta Youth Council.

The reaction to our program has been most favorable at both the local and
federal levels.

In spite of the success of our Campaign, we do hope we can do an even better
job next summer in the employment area.

The Mayor has alse asked me to convey his congratulations to your City for
the formation of its Qommunity Relations Commission and wlish you success in this
undertaking.

Thank you very much for your letter and your interest in this matter.

Sincerely,

John W. Cox
Executive Director
